NICCY’s URVoice consultation closes

NORTHERN Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People, Patricia Lewsley, today said thank you to everyone who took part in her URVoice Consultation.

The consultation closed on Friday and final totals show that almost 2,000 children, young people, parents, carers and people working with children and young people took part.

“Online, in groups, via the post, in schools, in youth clubs – wherever you took part and whichever way you took part, thank you!” said Ms Lewsley.

“This consultation is vital in helping me prioritise my work. I am delighted that so many individuals and groups took the time to be involved.”

The Commissioner’s consultation was based on research carried out last year with children, young people, their families and professionals working with children, as well as analysis of complaints received by NICCY.

“Every three years I have to consider a new corporate plan,” said Ms Lewsley.

“Our research formed the areas we consulted on. The consultation responses will help me develop and amend our priorities to make sure we continue to promote and safeguard the rights and best interests of children and young people.”

The results of the consultation, as well as NICCY’s Corporate Plan for 2008-2011 will be published later in the year.

The URVoice Consultation officially closed on 15th February, but was extended by two weeks because of the number of organisations which indicated they wanted to respond but whose responses had not been received.
