Evidence Needed to Show Children are Safe from Sexual Exploitation

Saturday 18th November 2017 marks European Day on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation. It is also marks 3 years since the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) in Northern Ireland made a range of recommendations to better protect children and young people from CSE. 

Currently government departments and agencies are completing their annual reports on how they have implemented the Inquiry recommendations.

Koulla Yiasouma, Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People said,

“I have been deeply disappointed by the quality of previous government reports which provided insufficient evidence of real progress in tackling CSE.

“I hope the next reports, which are due to be published now, give us confidence that children are safer today than when the Independent Inquiry first published its findings in 2014.”
