Background to Policy and Participation

The Commissioner has a duty to keep under review the adequacy and effectiveness of law, practice and services relating to children and young people.

She also must provide advice to relevant authorities, and can publish research, information or guidance on any issue relating to children’s rights and best interests.

This work can cover a wide range of issues affecting children’s lives such as play and leisure, education, social care, health services and justice.
