LEADING global figures in child care celebrated a visit to Belfast with an evening reception at the offices of the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People in November.

Experts in childcare and children’s rights – in Belfast for a conference hosted by the Northern Ireland Pre-School Playgroup Association – concluded their week of activity with a celebratory event on Friday evening at NICCY’s Belfast offices.

Nigel Williams, Commissioner for Children and Young People said the event was a wonderful opportunity to exchange best practice from across the world.

“I was delighted that we at NICCY could offer our facilities to support this Global Leaders event,” he said. “It was very pleasing that we were able to support NIPPA and the organisers through hosting the closing event, but also in a very practical way for workshops.

“That Northern Ireland is considered as a worthwhile destination for people wanting to learn more about children and young people’s issues shows how much good work is being undertaken by organisations such as NIPPA.”

At the event last week international visitors from more than a dozen countries were present including high profile speakers such as Joan Lombardi, former Deputy Assistant Secretary, Children and Families, under the Clinton administration in the United States.
