7 March 2008 News

NORTHERN Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People, Patricia Lewsley today urged young women to aspire to success.

Speaking on the eve of International Women’s Day (March 8th) the Commissioner said the province’s girls and young women can seize opportunities that were not available before.

“Tomorrow marks the 100th anniversary of International Women’s Day,” said Ms Lewsley. “When it began it was at a time when dramatic change was beginning in industrial societies. Chances were few for young women

“In 2008 this generation of young women have opportunities in all parts of Northern Ireland life.

“I would urge all of today’s girls and young women to take hold of the chances offered no matter what field they want to pursue in the future.”
