Children’s Commissioners are standing united in demanding urgent change for the millions of children growing up in poverty across the UK.
Chris Quinn, Nicola Killean, Rocio Cifuentes and Dame Rachel de Souza have come together to demand urgent action to tackle child poverty and ensure every child has the essentials they need to thrive.
“In 2025, it is unacceptable that any child is growing up in shocking levels of poverty, going without basics like food, clothing, heating, safe housing and other essentials.
“Child poverty is not just a statistic. It impacts every part of a child’s life, from their health, their education, their opportunities and their futures. We see the toll poverty is taking on millions of children’s wellbeing – but this does not have to be inevitable. Poverty is the result of policy choices, and it can be changed.
“As Children’s Commissioners we are united in calling for a child poverty strategy that tackles the root causes of poverty and builds a system where every child in the UK can thrive.
“This must start with two urgent steps: removing the two-child limit, which is driving hundreds of thousands of children into poverty, and annually increasing all child-related benefits, so families can meet their children’s basic needs even as costs rise.
“We urge the UK Government to act with urgency, because children cannot afford to wait.”
