Commissioner Chris Quinn shares a message to families, children and young people in the LGBTQIA+ community to celebrate this year’s Belfast Pride parade and events.
“As NI Commissioner for Children and Young People, I am proud to recognise and support NI Pride, a time to celebrate diversity, promote inclusion, and stand up for the rights of all children and young people, particularly those who are LGBTQIA+.
“Pride is a powerful reminder that equality, respect, and dignity must be upheld for all children, everywhere, every day.
“Today is an opportunity to reaffirm our call for a full legislative ban on conversion practices, reforming outdated gender recognition laws to ensure dignity and respect for trans and non-binary individuals. I am calling for Robust data collection to inform policy and services, and improved access to specialist healthcare and mental health support for transgender and non-binary youth.
“Every child has the right to grow up feeling safe, accepted, and valued for who they are.
“Let Pride be a moment not just of celebration, but of action—a commitment to building a society where every child’s identity is respected, their rights are protected, and their voices are heard loud and clear.”
