The Commissioner for Children and Young People, Nigel Williams, urged a more open approach in Northern Ireland schools to those from other cultures and religious backgrounds. Addressing the Northern Ireland Inter Faith Forum conference at the Balmoral Hall in Belfast, he drew special attention to the current review of the RE curriculum.

The Commissioner said “I know from my experience living in South East London that Christians should not fear the inclusion of other religions in the RE Syllabus. It is important to encourage respect and make sure we do not confuse education about a religion with personal belief in it.”
