Commissioner Chris Quinn: "I have been made increasingly aware of issues within paediatric services as well as Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) services in respect of staff workload, capacity, and staffing levels which have a corresponding impact on staff morale and delivery, and thus detrimental consequences for the delivery of safe, effective, and timely care and support for children and young people."
“I would welcome the commitment to introduce safe and effective staffing legislation which has due regard of the commitments upon the Department in respect of health as outlined in the Children and Young People’s Strategy. I would also welcome the commitment to undertake Child Rights Impact Assessments (CRIAs) in the development of such legislation as it relates to children and young people’s services to ensure full consideration of their rights and wellbeing in accordance with obligations outlined within UNCRC.
I hope that the above outlines the importance of upholding, protecting, and promoting children’s rights through ensuring safe and effective staffing within children and adolescent services in NI.”
