In 2014, the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People (NICCY) commissioned ARK, a joint initiative between Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Ulster, to include two modules of questions in its annual surveys of P7 age pupils (10/11 years) through the Kids’ Life and Times (KLT) survey and 16 year olds through the Young Life and Times (YLT) survey. The questions focused on the right to education; in particular children and young people’s attitudes towards, and experience of, education and were guided by the principles of Article 29 of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
