Commissioner Launches Sex Abuse Forum Website

The Commissioner for Children and Young People, Nigel Williams launched the new web site for the Northern Ireland Sex Abuse Forum at an event in the Long Gallery, Parliament Buildings Stormont on Tuesday 21st October 2003. The event was hosted by the former MLA Patricia Lewsley who chairs the forum, which brings together organisations working in combating sexual abuse along with professionals and survivors.

The Commissioner highlighted the importance of the web in providing a cheap way of offering comprehensive information to those who need it. He stressed the importance of the medium for children and young people, and said “I commend the Forum for setting up this new source of information about sexual abuse, and details of where to find help”.

The Commissioner also saluted the input at the launch from two survivors of sexual abuse who shared movingly about their experiences.
