ENOC Position Statement on ICRI’s 2023

9 October 2023

NICCY participated in the European Network of Ombudspersons for Children (ENOC) Annual Conference 2023 in September, the theme of which was “Strengthening Independent Children’s Rights Institutions and recognising their unique role”’.

This year’s ‘ENOC Position Statement 2023’ comes from the need to emphasise the core principles of Independent Children’s Rights Institutions (ICRIs) inter alia, Independence, Autonomy, Adequate Powers and Resources, Accessibility, Visibility and Participation.

The main role of ICRIs is to act as an Independent Champion for Children’s Rights.  We also act as Spokespersons, Advocates and promote the best interests of children and young people.  NICCY advises government on legislation, policy and strategies impacting them as well as enabling and supporting the ‘voice’ of children and young people in decision making affecting their lives and outcomes.
