Commissioner Supports New jigsaw Resource on Children and Conflict

22 October 2003 News

The Commissioner for Children and Young People, Nigel Williams spoke at the launch on Wednesday 22nd October of a new interactive jigsaw on children and conflict produced by young people from both the Wave Trauma Centre and the Red Cross.

The huge hand painted floor jigsaw was produced by the young people with the support of artists. It features a number of contemporary and historic images illustrating how children can be caught up in conflict as both child soldiers and as bystanders. The young people also prepared a short guide to how the jigsaw can be used in schools by different age pupils.

In welcoming the jigsaw the Commissioner said “This is a most impressive resource produced by young people for young people. I especially welcome the partnership of young people from Wave who have been personally suffered during the Northern Ireland conflict, with young people from the Red Cross whose international work in areas of conflict is so well known.”
