The Commissioner was speaking as a roundtable event organised by jointly by the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety in Northern Ireland, and the Office of the Minister for Health and Children in the Republic of Ireland, together with leading voluntary organisations, took place in Dundalk.
“Last year we presented key recommendations to Government in checking adults who want to work or volunteer to work with, children and young people,” said Mr McNeany.
“One of the key recommendations was to improve the ways government’s work together, and especially with the government in the Republic of Ireland.
“Today’s seminar is welcome as a first step to implementing our recommendations and I hope will be followed by concerted action.”
At the conference, Northern Ireland health minister Paul Goggins made a commitment to have “a stronger focus on vetting and barring arrangements within child protection.”
