The office of the Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People has been told that Ms Lewsley will take up post in New Year.
NICCY will not be issuing any further statements on the appointment until that date.
The post of Northern Ireland Commissioner for Children and Young People became vacant following the death of Nigel Williams in March 2006. Nigel was the first commissioner, following the creation of the office in 2003.
Barney McNeany has been holding the post of Commissioner on an interim basis since March 06.
