Alex Tennant – Head of Policy and Participation

Alex is the Head of Policy and Participation in NICCY. She leads the Policy and Research team to monitor government delivery in relation to children’s rights and best interests, and to provide advice on how this could be improved.

She also leads the Participation team in relation to NICCY’s work with children and young people, and to promote the participation of children and young people by government departments and agencies. While she works across a wide range of issues affecting children and young people, her primary areas of focus are general measures of implementation, child poverty and environmental justice.

Prior to joining NICCY, Alex started her working life as a youth worker in North Belfast, before going to the University of Bradford to study Peace Studies.

On her return to NI, she worked in Mediation NI, the Institute of Conflict Research, the Electoral Commission and Save the Children before starting work at NICCY in 2009.

She lives in Belfast with her family, bees and chickens.
