Joanne McGurk – Head of Legal and Investigations

Joanne completed her undergraduate Law and Government degree at Ulster University and qualified as a solicitor in 2011. Joanne has devoted her career to the rights of children and young people and has over 14 years experience in advising on children’s rights.

In previous roles, she has gained experience in public and private children’s law, domestic abuse law, education law and judicial review, in relation to education and the rights of children and young people.

Joanne joined NICCY in 2022 and leads the Legal and Investigations department. She advises on the relevant law and practice, and provides strategic oversight and advice in relation to complaints where children’s rights have been breached. Joanne is a member of the Senior Management Team and the Leadership and Management Team.

Outside of work, Joanne enjoys spending time with her two young children, keeping fit and open-water swimming.
