Even governments face exams! Every 6-8 years the UK and devolved governments meet with the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child and are examined about how well they are keeping their human rights promises to children.

Graphic on poverty for the Convention on the Rights of the Child 2022 ReportChildren’s Commissioners from Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have produced reports to tell the Committee about how well our governments are doing.  We have highlighted areas of children’s rights that we are worried about in our “report card” to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child. This includes poverty, mental health, and proposed changes to laws protecting children’s rights.

Children and young people’s views must be central to decisions affecting them, and so the Commissioners have also submitted a report of children’s voices and experiences to the UN Committee.

In 2023 we plan to meet with the Committee to discuss our ‘report cards’. They will then meet with the UK and devolved governments before telling them what they need to work on over the coming years.Graphic for young person's Convention on the Rights of the Child 2022 Repor
